Dear Debbie, You are correct about John Gordon's birthplace. I am not
sure where I got the Orange County info but 3 seperate sources give the
Albermarle County. The date I have for Barzillah Martin's birth may be
her christening date. From the abundance of data, I suspect there is a
GORDON family Bible out there somewhere. I got all my information from
either the "Heritage of Surry County, N.C.", "The Heritage of Stokes
County, N.C." or "Gordon Family Genealogy and Brief History" by Isaac
Martin Gordon, written in 1910 and available on microfiche 6018075 at
the Family History Centers, LDS Church. In the later he states March 27
as the birthdate of Barzillah Martin and he states ("old style," 1774)
so maybe both are correct.
I am descended from John Gordon's daughter, Barzillah, who married James
King in Stokes Co., N.C. Their son, Alvis, was my great grandfather. I
would be interested in seeing the information on Sarah. In the Gordon
History on microfiche it gives Sarah's name as Sallie.
