I just received a typed copy of an ancestor's will. Until this time I
did not know he had any daughters. (This began with marriage in Philly
area, then migrated to Western PA area.)
Mathew Graham Sr. and his sons are listed in the 1895 Butler County
History book, but no name for wife and/or nothing on daughters.
A typewritten copy of the will lists his wife as beloved Hester. He
lists daughters as: Elizabeth Cetrin and Ann. Elizabeth Cetrin
received 5 shillings* Pennsylvania currency and Ann received 1
shilling. Hester received 1/3 of his estate. Also, a Zacharia is
listed as receiving 5 shillings. No name or relationship given. *
What amount would a shilling in 1787 have been worth?
Order of bequeathment: Hester, Zacharia, Cetrin and Ann. Then, Mathew
and William.
Does the order mean anything? I thought maybe with wife and daughters
he was looking out for their welfare first. But, here is this Zacharia
stuffed in the middle.
Mathew Jr. and William were born in 1880 and 1883. So Mathew was only 7
and William 4 when the will was proven. Could Zacharia possible be a
husband to one of the daughters? Why would one daughter get more money
than the other. Could the spelling of Cetrin (in a strong Scottish
brogue) have been for Katherine/Catherine, Catrina, Catrine.?
Oh, well, I seem to be rambling with my thoughts and questions. Sorry
to be so windy.
Deanna
