Message From Chief Smith
In the past year, the Cherokee Nation has undergone numerous
changes. The Cherokee Nation still represents its people, just
as it has since our first treaty with the Europeans in 1722
and before.
This report serves as a milepost to tell the world where
we stand as a nation. There is a historical timeline that
demonstrates how we are the successors to a great legacy
of Cherokee heritage and government. There is budget
information, maps and highlights of what we ve accomplished
as the Cherokee Nation government in the last year.
This information tells us where we ve been and where we
are now. More importantly, this report contains the guiding
principles that will guide our nation and our employees
in the future.
Thank you for taking the time to learn more about the
Cherokee Nation, our past, our present and our future.
Wa-do,
Chad Smith
Principal Chief
