Dear List,
Today I looked up the pension and confederate records of a Confederate
soldier named J. C(or G) GREATHOUSE. Here is what I found. He was born
in IL in 1833, was admitted to the Texas Confederate Home on September
30, 1914 and died October 29 1916 in Dallas County, TX of Bronchitis. He
came to TX in 1859 and lived in Seagoville, TX for 7 years. His
residence was stated as Brazos (Co.), TX and he is buried in TX State
Cemetery in the Confederate Section in Austin. He was a widower and had
a son F. T. GREATHOUSE living in Crowell, Foard Co. TX at the time.
I know nothing else about this man although the Confederate Home was in
the next block from the house my grandfather, John Allen GREATHOUSE,
built and lived in until his death. Perhaps someone has a lost ancestor
this information would benefit. Joan in TX
