Thanks to the help of people on this list, I have found out that my G
Grandad enlisted in the Royal Engineers in London. He was living in
Middleton, Manchester at the time. Was it usual for soldiers to travel such
a long way to enlist? Does anyone have any idea why he may not have
registered in Manchester?
