Tina,
The only other source to complement the CWGC "Debt of Honour" is "Soldiers
Died in the Great War" which of course only deals with the British
Army. Cardiff being a port, men living there were quite likely to join the
Royal or Merchant Navies.
SDGW does not give parental information or dates of birth- only places of
birth, enlistment and residence as notified at the time of their death. So
it is not a mechanism to identify members of a particular family. SDGW
indicates that there were 23 men named LEWIS born in Cardiff and 8 of them
enlisted there.
I suggest that you need to do some old fashioned genealogy and check the
birth registers for England and Wales for the years 1889 - 1900+. The
Registrar-General for England and Wales operates the Family Records Centre
at 1 Myddleton Street, London EC1R 1UW, United Kingdom; Tel: +44 (0) 208
392 5300; Fax: +44 (0) 207 392 5307. The FRC also includes search
facilities for the censuses of England and Wales for 1841 to 1901. There
are also other genealogical resources.
The GRO web address is:

Or you could be very brave and try the recently released 1901 Census on-line!
Wishing you a Good New Year in 2002.
