Hello,
My name is Mary Tingay, and I am a new subscriber to
this list and hope someone might be able to help me.
I have found the name of my grandfather, Lance
Corporal T.B. TINGAY, 552113, 646th Field Coy., Royal
Engineers on the Commonwealth War Graves site, with
details of his date of death, and where he lived and
the name of my grandmother. He died on the 23rd
August, 1918. The stone is marked 'in memory' and is
in Walton-on-the-Naze, Essex.
I am hoping to be able to send for his death
certificate as I have no other written information on
him and do not have his birth certificate. I have
asked for the Index to the Civil Registration of
Birth, Marriages and Deaths for the year quarter in
which he died, from the LDS Farmily Record Center,
near where I live in the far north of Maine, in the
US. This I will get in about two weeks.
In the meantime, I wondered where I might get more
information about what happened to him on that day,
about the 646th Field Coy., Royal Engineers, and
anything else that I can find out.
With thanks,
Mary Tingay
