Hi Peter - thank you
First a question - what is the SWD CD??
I have given my reservations about sergeant henry through another reply.
John D is also a problem - he's too old - nearly 10 years too old - and his
father is not noted as "dec'd" or "late". I wondered too about the machine
gun corps - what sort of qualifications did you need to join things other
than basic infantry - I told you I was clueless!! I have not actually got
this man's birth certificate - he is listed on 1901 census with the initial
D - none of the others have a second inital but when I got Henry's birth
certificate I found he had a Joseph tacked on. I suppose I could get closer
if I got John's birth certificate and confirmed second name as David. But
also he died after the above Henry so he was not involved in that Henry's
decision to join up.
Would trying to get Henry's death certificate help and do the stamps mean he
was alive or dead at that point - after all there were no widow's pensions
were there?
regards
Ros

and his brothers, rather that you may use this as a starting point. This
information has been gained by use of the SWD CD and a cross check with the
CWGC Site
