Thank you for the detailed reply, Tom. I see things more clearly now. The only thing I might throw in following your mention of Form E624 which I do not have amongst the disappointingly few documents that have come to me, is that the man signed a Form B250(5?) (it's all black around the edges -one of the "burnt docs."?) and in answer to Q.9: "Are you willing to be enlisted for General Service?" he says "Yes".

I suppose the obvious thing for me to do is to get hold of the papers he signed for the Durhams.
