Subject: {Spam?} Sussex Yeomanry: Interests

Dear list,
I have been slowly transcribing some diaries my grandfather wrote whilst on
service in the 1/1st Sussex Yeomanry in Egypt, Palestine and France. His
name was Ernest George Parsons.
I have occasionally asked the list for help in understanding some of his
terminology and to decipher his handwriting. This time I am asking about a
General Gervais - not of the Yeomanry or Royal Sussex but someone who was
obviously a 'big wig' in that area in 1917. Can anyone shed any light on
who this General Gervais might be?
I'd also be interested in hearing from anyone with any information about the
1/1st Yeomanry in that theatre of war.
Regards,
Derrick Parsons
