If you go to documents online at the National Archives you will find him at

Medal card of Jones, Edward W
Corps Regiment No Rank
London Regiment 1684 Private
London Regiment 320292 Private
By paying £3.50 you will be able to download his Medal Index Card which will
tell you on which page he appears in the Medal Rolls of the 6th Londons.
These rolls will tell you the dates he served overseas with the 6th Londons.
His 4 digit number 1684 suggests that he might have been a pre-war member of
the Territorial Force. I am no expert on the 6th Londons - but have looked
at the 7th and 19th Londons in detail and men in those battalions with this
number were pre-war, joining in c. 1913.
Detailed study of the Silver War Badge of the London TF should enable you to
assess his approximate enlistment date (to within two weeks or so) by
comparison with other men with similar numbers. This will be well worth
doing in the event that his service record does not survive.
regards
Charles
