I've have just recently received a birth certificate for my Great
Uncle's daughter who was born in September 1918. Under the Father's
occupation which was Paper Warehouse man it included the following
statement "Ex Private 1st City of London Fusiliers". This is the first
indication of any military service as it was not mentioned on other
birth certificates of his other children born in 1899, 1901, 1903 and
1906. I've checked the medal rolls for any awards but found no trace of
a medal awarded to my Great Uncle Paul Harry Flower. At the time of this
birth he would be 43 years old so I am not sure if he served in WW1.
Would he have served with this unit before WW1 as I believe from the
small amount of research I've done on this unit it did serve in WW1 in
France so he would have a least received some medals if he went with his
unit to France?
I am not sure if this unit was a militia unit before WW1 or was it
regular army and served in other theatres before WW1 and this is when he
was a member.
I have no idea of his service number so how do I find his service
records? I also have a picture of him and his 2 sons which are grown men
at the time and there are no visible signs of wounds that's not say
there were no wounds received which would have made him invalided out of
the service by Sept 1918.
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated as up until now I've not
needed to research military records.
