Good morning,
This article about Irish soldiers serving in the British Army in WW1 who
were executed by the British appeared in, " The Australian " to-day which
shows that the issue is still very much with us.
http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/common/story_page/0,5744,11399000%255E2703,00.html
The Irish government is supporting the Shot at Dawn pressure group who are
campaigning for retrospective pardons for Irish soldiers who were executed
while serving in the British Army.
I have pointed out in an earlier email that :
"...... New Zealand passed the Pardon for Soldiers of the Great War Act in
2000, which pardoned the few people that it had executed in the first world
war, thus showing that it can still be done. "

I also pointed out that Australia never executed any of its soldiers who
were tried and convicted and sentenced to death by firing squad.
Surely it 's about time that the British government grant retrospective
pardons to its soldiers who it executed for offences such as desertion,
insubordination, striking an officer and as an example to others, offences
for which the death penalty was repealed in 1930.
Justice delayed is justice denied.
Regards.
Patrick.
