Unfortunately Marg, a large proportion - about 60% , if I remember correctly - of all WW1 army service papers were lost in the blitz. There are some - known as the *burnt papers* - that survived. The chances on you getting your grandfather's papers are pretty slim.

I have no idea where to suggest you start looking, but I'm sure someone on the list will be able to give you some advice.

Some 10 years ago I sent 15GBS pounds to the Dept of Army , Hayes, Middx
expecting to get copy of his war service dossier ....... The only info I
got for that money was a printed letter to say thousands of records had
been lost in the Blitz
I reckon that was a rip off then and it still is now !

Any suggestions on how to find this discharge date ????

Many thanks

bye
