Subject: Joseph Grummitt - Army Pensioner

Hi List,
Joseph Grummit was my grandfather and I never met him. In my searches I have
found that he was born in 1887,Lowestoft, Suffolk and was married there in
1909, and in the years 1909 to 1914 he had three children all born and
christened in Lowestoft.
Sometime between 1914 and 1917 he moved to Portland, Dorset, where my
father, George, was born in 1917 (and I never met him). On the birth
certificate for my father Joseph was an Army Pensioner. In 1918 another
child was born, Ivy, also in Portland.
This is the only information I have regarding my family and several points
seem strange.
1, As the Great War was in progress I would imagine that Joseph, who was 27
in 1914 would have been in the Forces, and being a Suffolk man probably have
enlisted in one of the local regiments?
2, Portland is not the easiest place to get to from Suffolk, so why did he
move there? Also he was now listed as an Army Pensioner?
3, Has anyone any idea if I can find details of his Army Pension.
My kind regards
Bob Archer
