Subject: Digging up the road at Anzac Cove or is it just another Gallipoli myth.

Good morning all,
This article appeared to-day in the, " The Australian " one of Australia '
s leading daily newspapers about claims being made Downunder that the
Turks are digging up a road in the area where the ANZACs fought and died
during the bitter Gallipoli campaign. The Turks have denied the claims that
he last resting place of many ANZAC soldiers are being disturbed.

Enter the politicians. John Howard said about 3 years ago that he would ask
the Turkish government to give Australia the Anzac Cove area in perpetuity
as a place where the sacrifices of so many Australians would never be
forgotten. He assured us on TV that he expected the Turks to agree to his
request. It still has n' t happened because the Turkish Prime Minister
pointed out to Howard that the land in question was a sovereign part of
Turkey and they were not inclined to give any of it away.
I find it ironic that Howard who has has denied the rights of so many of
Australia 's indigenous people , who have lived here for at least 40, 000
years, the rights to reclaim some of the land taken by force from them
during the European invasion of just over 200 ago and yet he expects
another country to give up a piece of their land to Australia just because
he asked them nicely.
Regards.
Patrick.
