Hello list,

There are a lot of people with ancestors born in what is now Turkey and wondering how to find birth, death & marriage records. It has been been driving me crazy wondering how you could find out what records there are in existance and how you would go about accessing them.
Well obviously I've been driving my husband crazy with this as well and he has come up with a brilliant idea. The Greek Orthodox Patriarch (Barthomolew) lives and has offices still in Constantinople (Istanbul), he has a web site at www.patriarchate.org which has the address, phone numbers and email addresses for contacting him listed. Maybe if you sent an email they would be able to shed some light on where or if you will find the records, or with a bit of luck they may have an archive of records from the Greek churches in Turkey.
