I am a Green from New London County,Ct. The earliest I can track back Is
Nathan E.Green who married Mary Ann Beckwith in 1836 In Lyme, Ct. From all
family lore he was born in Rhode Island. I have unsubstantiated info that
this was in Westerly.
He was 18 years old when he married Mary Ann who was 31. He had 2 Sons, Henry
Emory Green and John William Green. John William was born about 1837 and my
Great Grandfather,Henry Emory Green was born about 3 years later. Around 1842
Nathan abandoned his family and joined the Army. He was killed in action in
the battle of Resaca de La Palma on May 9, 1846 during the Mexican War. He
was 28 years old when he died. I have a copy of the 1850 Census for East
Haddam, Middlesex County,Ct which lists Mary Ann Green, age 66; John W. Green,
Age 13 Cotten Factory worker, and Henry E. Green, age 10. I have no further
info on Nathan E. Green or John William Green. I understand that Henry Emory
Green frequently visited Westerly, Rhode Island where he had relatives. Do
you have any information about these Greens?
