Okay.... here's a thought..... looks like exploring the Medina County, Ohio angle might yield the most results.  Ohio has some very strong genealogical societies, and they are organized by counties under the Ohio Genealogical Society.  Either try to work through them and their publications and/or post on the Medina County, Ohio board on Ancestry.  You might want to condense the info. below (as much as you can) and include all of the various "Greenslit" variations.  Ohio was a HUGE "pass through" state and many of the genealogical societies in Ohio are very interested in helping researchers with questions like yours.

Yes, I have looked for Gus Greenslit on the 1850 census using Ancestry.com
== also Greenslet, Greensley, Grenslet, Grunslet, Greenslitt, Greenslip -- 
about every spelling variation I could think of.  I also looked for Judith
and Sophia -- hoping to find his wife Judith and this Sophia born 1831 in
Warren, Washington Co., Vermont, who I think was Augustine Greenslit and
Judith Nutting's daughter.

I also did a search just using the last name (no first name) to see where
everybody was in 1850.  No Augustine or Judith popped up with that search
either. (Sophia was married before 1850 in McHenry Co., IL.

The census indexes for Ancestry.com are not the greatest, but I got nothing.

If Sophia was born in 1831, she was only 17 when she married Andrew Loban in
McHenry Co., IL.
I figure Sophia was either living with relatives OR her mother remarried
someone between 1843-1850. If so, I don't know who she married.  There is no
Judith Greenslit 2nd marriage on the Illinois Statewide Marriage Index.

If both of her parents died between 1842-1848, she could have been raised by
relatives -- Greenslit or Nutting.  Her uncle Lyman Nutting is on the 1850
census living in Lake Co., IL (county next to McHenry).  Her uncle John R.
Greenslit was living in McHenry Co., IL, by 1850.  He had lived previously
in Medina Co., OH.

What I haven't done is look for Augustine Greenslit in Medina Co., OH.  John
R. Greenslit was there prior to 1850 and so was his brother Henry Greenslit.
Both Greenslit brothers left Medina Co., OH, prior to 1848.  John R.
Greenslit went to McHenry Co., IL; his brother Henry Greenslit arrived in
Sauk Co., WI, in February 1848 -- which was before Sophia Greenslit married
Andrew Loban (they married in McHenry Co., IL, in DECEMBER 1848 so Sophia
did not go to Sauk Co., WI.  Right now I tend to think that Sophia could
have lived with John R. Greenslit for awhile. But WHEN did she join his
household?

Right now I have convinced myself that Sophia Greenslit born 1831 in Warren,
Washington Co., VT, was Augustine Greenslit and Judith Nutting's second
daughter because 1) they had a daughter born c. 1830-1835 on the 1840 Warren
VT census and 2) her family tradition says that around 1892 Sophia Greenslit
Loban took her youngest son with her on a trip back to Warren, VT, where she
had been born.  Sophia fits only in Augustine Greenslit's 1840 Warren, VT,
household.

There was a 3rd daughter for Augustine Greenslit per the 1840 census and
Warren school records. She was the youngest on the 1840 census. I have no
idea what happened to her nor do I know her name.  However, there is an
"A.Greenslit" female living in a Sauk Co., WI, household. I can't place her
in Henry's family. Hmmm.

Just a question.... have you dug around for a "Gus" Greenslit/Greenslet/
Greensley and all of its possible variations? Also... any other families
from that area of Vermont head to Illinois... and why?

Re: The Sophia C. Greenslit who married Andrew Loban on Dec 25, 1848 in
McHenry Co., IL.

According to Delaware Co., Iowa, cemetery records Sophia Greenslit Loban was
born in 1831. She died 14 Dec 1896 and was buried in the Oakland Cemetery,
Delaware Co., IA.

According to census records, Sophia was born 1831 or 1832 in Vermont.

I found a biography of her son A. L. Loban on the net. Per his biography,
his mother Sophia (Greensleet) Loban was born in Warren, Washington Co., VT.
That sure helped to narrow this down.

Per the 1840 Warren, Washington Co., VT, census, Sophia fits as a female age
5-10 in the household of Augustine Greenslit. (It's the only Greenslit
household that she fits.)

Augustine Greenslit was a son of John Greenslit and Silome (or Salome)
Pitts. He married Judith NUTTING. Per 1830 and 1840 Vermont census records,
they had 3 daughters. Until now, I had identified only their first born
daughter who was Betsy Pamelia Greenslit who married Hiram Dana in 1838.

What happened to Augustine Greenslit, his wife Judith (Nutting), and their 2
youngest daughters has been a mystery for me for a long time. Warren, VT,
school records have the two youngest daughters in schools until 1842. No
scholars in 1843.

In Feb 1842, Augustine Greenslit sold his land. That's my last record for
Augustine Greenslit, his wife Judith, or their two youngest daughters until
now.

If this Sophia Greenslit (born 1831 in Warren) who married in 1848 in
McHenry Co., IL, at age 17 is Augustine Greenslit's daughter -- where was
she between 1842-1848? Did her parents die some time between 1842-1848 and
she went to live in the family of her uncle John R. Greenslit?

More digging to do.
