outrageous way imaginable. Born in Melbourne beach suburb of Elwood, the
eldest child of a conservative, well-to-do family. Her father, Eric Greer
was a successful newspaper advertising executive who was away fighting in WW
II for most of her childhood. When he returned, he was so visibly aged from
his ordeal in the siege of Malta that his wife didn't recognize him." Her
parents later separated.

"Germaine graduated with first-class honors as a English & French literature
double-major. She then went to Sydney University for a master's degree
(M.A.) in English, and [received] first-class honors again. For the next
three years, GREER worked as a school teacher, then in 1964 she won another
scholarship, this time to Newham College, Cambridge University, England,
where she received her doctorate (Ph.D.) in 1967 with a dissertation
entitled "The Ethics of Love and Marriages in Shakespeare's Early Comedies."
The royalties from [her book] "The Female Eunuch" enabled her to buy a
beautiful house in the Tuscan hill of Italy, and she split her time between
that home and a town house in Essex, England."
Greer currently lives in a farmhouse in Essex, England and serves as a
professor in English literature at the University of Warwick. On Easter
weekend 2000, a 19-year-old student at the University of Bath named Karen
Burke tied Greer up in her home and proceeded to smash her belongings with a
fire poker. Greer's colleagues eventually came looking for her as they had
been expecting her for dinner. The student had apparently been stalking
Greer for some time after reading her books.

MERCHANTMAN that arrived in Fremantle, WEST AUSTRALIA, AUSTRALIA in
September 12th, 1864.

This 1018 ton ship was built in Sunderland in 1853. It was employed twice
as a convict transport for Western Australia and left PORTLAND, ENGLAND on
JULY 1ST, 1864 bound for the Swan River Colony. On this second voyage she
carried the thirty-first of 37 shipments of male convicts destined for
Western Australia. The voyage took 73 days and the Merchantman arrived in
FREMANTLE on September 12th, 1864 with 95 passengers and 258 convicts
[ERICKSON]. William Gardiner and William Smith were the captain and surgeon

Of the 95 passengers mentioned above, 86 were pensioner guards and their
families, the number being made up of 28 pensioner guards, 18 wives, 19 sons
and 21 daughters. The other 9 passengers have not been accounted for but
were possibly cabin passengers or regular soldiers.

The following list is an alphabetically sorted list of the names associated
with each of the 260 convict numbers assigned to this voyage. The comments
field gives alternative names attributed to the various convicts, many of
which are not only spelling variations, but alternative names used in later
life or in subsequent re-convictions.
