I've seen some information that had a Francis Grimes as a son of Thomas
Grimes, who died in 1797 in Edgecombe County NC. Thomas' wife was Chloe
Llewellyn. This Francis was apparently born around 1765, so it could
possibly be the same Francis who was in Bullock County. This line could be
linked with several others that were in GA in the early 1800s, including
Josiah Grimes, who died in Muscogee County GA, and had sons who moved to
Heard County.

Also a very interesting possible link is to Thomas C Grimes, who had a huge
plantation in Early (became Miller) County GA before 1860. One of Francis'
other sons, William moved to Early County and had a large family there. The
fact that Thomas C, from Hancock and Putnam County, would invest in a
plantation hundreds of miles from his home says to me that he had family
there to look after it.

Does anybody have any information that might tell me whether or not these
possible links are totally wrong?

Subject: Earliest Grimes ancestor

Hi Stephanie,

I have just started working on my Grimes ancestry. My paternal grandmother
is Pearle Grimes (b. 1912) and her line goes:

father: Morris Grimes
grandfather: Levi Grimes (b. 1848)
great-grandfather: Jeremiah Grimes (b. 1813)
great-great grandfather: Francis Grimes (Jeremiah's mother was the second
wife Rachel)

I have nothing beyond Francis who died abt 1814 in Bulloch County, GA. This
line lived in Emanuel, Bulloch and Bryan Counties in Georgia before my
Grandfather Morris moved to St John's County, Florida in the early 1900s.

If you know of anyone further back that links to this line I would love to
hear about it.

Thanks,

John Nauright
