I am interested in information about the DEFOREST family in CT prior to
1820, especially any reference to Clark Gilbert DEFOREST, probably born
sometime between 1790 and 1805. He married Lois PHELPS about 1827 in
Austerlitz, Columbia Co., NY; she died in childbirth in 1828 in
Austerlitz. As I can find no reference to him in 1830 in NY, I am
following the migration pattern to Columbia Co. backwards and am hoping he
came from and possibly returned to Connecticut. I do not have access to
Census records or indices to Connecticut after 1820, so can't check out my
theory myself. ANy help locating Clark Gilbert DEFOREST and his ancestry
would be greatly appreciated. I have hit a brick wall here in SW
Missouri.
