I have the original 1769 document (7" by 7") on the settlement of the
estate of Ebenezer FOWLER, b. 1684 in Guilford and d. Nov. 28, 1768 in
Guilford. On May 1, 1718 he married Elizabeth STARR, who was b. Nov. 26,
1695 and d. May 26, 1765. She was the dtr. of Comfort STARR and Elizabeth
HOBSEN. They had the following children:

Ebenezer FOWLER Jr. (1719-1800), revolutionary war veteran, who m.
Desire BRISTOL. He was my ancestor. I am descended from him by: Ebenezer
Jr.; Nathan; James; Austin; Charles; Theron; and Eunice FOWLER (my mother).
Nathaniel (1721-1764), m. Lucy CRUTTENDEN. (Nathaniel predeceased dad)
Huldah (1723-1820), m. Samuel CHITTENDEN
Caleb (1726-1726), died in infancy
Caleb (1727-1753), died unmarried
Elizabeth (1732-1810), unmarried as far as I know
Lucy (1735-1800), m. Joseph WELD
William (1738-1739), died in childhood

Here is the 1769 document, which on the back says "Quit Claim of Father's
Estate." A question mark below indicates that I can not make the word out:

The names at the end of the document are individual signatures. They must
not have bothered educating the women, as they did the men. Lucy (wife of
Nathaniel) is the only female who could sign her name. Her signature looks
like it was more difficult than the others, and that may be all the writing
she could do.

It is odd to me that the son Ebenezer FOWLER is not signing the document.
Apparently the others are signing this document that he prepared as
executor, showing that they agree to the way the estate is being
distributed in another document which I have.

Lucy FOWLER is Lucy CRUTTENDEN, the wife of deceased Nathaniel FOWLER. The
two females she is guardian for are no doubt her dtrs., but I only had
listed in my records her one dtr. Lucy FOWLER, b. Sep 1, 1761, who m.
Benjamin CHITTENDEN.

The Nathaniel and Reuben FOWLER mentioned under the guardian of Joseph
CRUTTENDEN have not been identified by me. I think that they must be sons
of the Nathaniel FOWLER and Lucy CRUTTENDEN and that the Joseph CRUTTENDEN,
given the responsibility of these two minors, must be kin to Lucy. I
suppose that he took over the boys and Lucy took over the girls.

I can send a scanned copy of this document to anyone who is interested.
