Having used the Death index to find at least 100 people I have revised the way
I enter names et al. If it is not a really common name or given & surname
combination, I enter the minimum information and hope that the yield is less
than 50 hits. The reason is that the SSDI program apparently tries to match
your input against the records and if the file information does not include an
item that you have entered, then there is NO match! For example, if you enter
birthdate and it is not in there records; no match, if you enter the state
they died in and it is not in the record; no match. If, on the other hand you
just enter the minimum information and leave out the birthdate and state, the
program will give you the entered name with all the dates and states and you
will have to weed through for the match. I prefer this to the disappointing
yield when you put in the facts.
Try it, you'll like it
