My great-grandfather left Ireland during the famine (about 1845) and
settled in Lancashire, England. There was a large Irish population in
Liverpool. All of his male children (born in the 1850s) left England
for America where they felt there were better opportunities. Maybe
this same held true for many other Irish families.
