Wish you had more info on Gershom like possible DOB, who he married, etc...
Looking at the published VRs of Mansfield:
Dimock, Susan W., Births, Baptisms, Marriages and Deaths from the Records
of the Town and Churches in Mansfield, Connecticut 1703-1850 (NEHGS
Photoduplication, 1997; New York: The Baker & Taylor Co., 1898).
The Town Records - Births - Hall section <there are several HALL pages> I
see at least 2 Gershoms and all could have been living in the 1770s:

No deaths of a Gershom HALL listed.
I have a direct line from Isaac and Sarah (REED) HALL - the first HALL
family above - through their daughter Esther who married Thomas BARROWs. I
have Isaac (c1675-1738) md. 24 Apr 1700 Mansfield Sarah REED. Sources:
Torrey's New England Marriages Prior to 1700 and Dimock's Mansfield.
