Hello,
As I continue to "ask and receive" information on the DITSON family in
1600's Billerica, I think I should offer the list of the children of Thomas
DITSON (Jr.) (1741-1828). === Many people continue to look for information
on where he was buried in 1828. ===
This document was provided to me yesterday; it came from an article
published in "the Essex Genealogist" this summer:
Thomas DITSON (Thomas, Hugh)* married Elizabeth BLANCHARD in 1761 in
Billerica. Their children were:
Thomas DITSON, b1762, who "died at sea" at Age 20 in Feb. 1782.
Elizabeth DITSON, b1766, married Abel WINSHIP.
Sarah DITSON, b1767, married 1) Isaac WILSON, 2) Benjamin FLETCHER, 3)
Daniel LAWRENCE.
John DITSON, b1770, married Abial LOW
Jesse DITSON, b1772, married (possibly) Mary/Polly GRAHAM (name
sometimes DIDSON)
Allice DITSON, b1779, married Oliver GRAGG
William DITSON, b1780, married ??????
Josiah DITSON, b1782, married Naoma VARNUM
Thomas DITSON, b1783, married ??????
Nancy DITSON, b~1785, married Joseph WOODS
In summary, on 3 sons of Thomas and Elizabeth were known to live past Age 20
and were known to marry. Two sons we don't know about. So, the
DITSON name would have probably only continued through John, Jesse, and
Josiah. And, it would be nice to find out where they moved to.
It would be nice to find out where the daughters moved to, with their
WINSHIP, WILSON, GRAGG, VARNUM, and WOODS husbands.
This summer I asked some people in Great Britain whether the DITSON name was
known there. One person suggested that the name was originally DIXON.
FYI: I just looked at another page sent to me yesterday which has the
descendants of Seth DITSON (son of Hugh; uncle of Thomas), and I see that
many of his descendants lived in Maine. Seth married Elizabeth _____,
and had many children all born in Billerica. But the family lived in
Dunstable.
By the way, the man who wrote to me yesterday is looking for: definite
information on a Thankful BUTTERFIELD, and was she the daughter of Benjamin
and Thankful (COLBURN) BUTTERFIELD, and the family-tree of Benjamin
BUTTERFIELD. (Thankful, the daughter, married John DITSON in 1759 in
Dunstable.)
Thank you for your time.
Betty (near Lowell, MA)
*Information on this family is in the "history of Billerica" - but there are
2 typos or mistakes in the paragraph.
