Subject: [GENMASSACHUSETTS] Old "Family BIBLES" which contain information
Date: Sun, 9 Nov 2008 07:57:21 -0500
Hello,
Just wanted to remind researchers that old "Family BIBLES" are a good source
of information for some - if you are lucky enough to have one, find one, or
find someone who has one that has information you need.
And, many of them are being sold on-line. Some reasonably priced; some
not.
I can say that, when I first started researching my KIDDER line in Maine and
MA about 15 years ago, I started writing a lot of slow-mail letters. One
lady responded to say she was a niece of my great-grandfather from
Princeton, ME. She lived in Portland, ME, and had her late mother's
"Family BIBLE." She was kind enough to write to me with the data in the
BIBLE, and from that I was able to find out more information about my
great-grandfather's family. (He was born 1870 in Princeton.)
Another lady responded to say that she and her husband had bought an old,
abandoned farm in Maine, and way out in the back of the land were a few old
gravestones - of KIDDER's. And KIDDER was written on one of the boards in
the barn.
(I had written to some Historical Societies in different parts of Maine.
And, I used to write "letters to the Editors" of cities in Maine I was
interested in.)
I'd also like to mention that last week I saw the first-name, Ichabod, on
one of the Lists, and that always reminds me of the fictional character -
Ichabod CRANE. I went to find a web page which would remind me of the
original story of "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" and was reminded of the
Van TASSEL name.
What did I just find being sold on-line? An old "family BIBLE" from the
Tarrytown, NY, area, where one of the surnames mentioned was Van TASSEL.

P.S. I used to love watching the old, Disney movie every October:
