I'd say B&N gave you some faulty information, but their bottom line
was probably correct. According to Amazon, the 1991 edition is now
out-of-print. Everton is advertizing a "*pre*-publication special" of
the new 9th edition at the web page

This web page says the offer expires 1 September, but it is still
posted, so maybe the deadline has been extended?

Incidentally, some catalogs have this title as "Handy Book" (with a
space), so try both ways.
