Hi Everyone.
I just thought I would put in my two cents' here about your comments about
AOL and the Genealogy Forum.
I am a host for the Forum and work some of the very latenight chats. For
those that sign onto AOL directly, stop by and say hello! I'm GFS Taz and am
fairly easy to spot.
The Forum can now be accessed to a degree by those not on AOL. We are moving
as many of our information boards and message boards to the Internet with the
hopes of reaching people like you to help with your research. At this time,
the chat rooms have not been moved to the Internet and I am not sure exactly
what the future plans are for that. To find us on the Internet, please use
the following URL.
www.genealogyforum.com
We are still in the process of moving files and such, so keep checking back.
Our Beginners Center, Resource Center and the Internet Center have been moved
and links are being added all the time. You can also find our monthly
Newsletter on the Internet, with our columnists DearMYRTLE, Along those Lines
by George Morgan, as well as others.
As for not being able to connect at all times to the 'Net via AOL, shutting
down AOL and restarting AOL does help. The reasoning why is that somewhere,
something might have become a bit 'corrupt' (for lack of a different word...
no virus or anything, but just a bit twisted).... and by shutting down and
restarting, you put everything back in its place.
Something else you may want to try is to clean out your 'cache' files,
(temporary internet files)...your 'history files' (for those on AOL), and
even going into your Explorer and your Windows directory and locate a file
called 'cookies'. Sometimes these areas get close to the limits that are set
by default in your system and make it harder to connect to the 'Net...and you
will get more 'timed out' messages or not be able to connect at all.
Happy Searching!
