It's perfectly reasonable for him to have been 13 at the end of the war.
A lot of men lied about their age, having their father's sign an
affidavit stating they were indeed old enough to enter the service, or
having run away from home and joined. He could have been a drummer boy,
flag bearer, or could have cooked. Depending on what his rank was while
in at what outfit he served with, his age may not have mattered that
much.

Many young men signed up because of the enlistment money paid. If there
families were poor and desperately needed money, that bonus came in
really handy.

Wow! Thanks for this site -- I may have found my Great-Grandfather, Charles
Levi Taylor (except that he would have been 13 at the end of the war! oh
well).
