Hello Cousins,
Here is a transcription of the inscriptions inside the front cover of a
bible, said to have the date 1825 on the flyleaf that is said to have
belonged to George Sterling Smith.

The scans were done at Memphis University by a graduate student which came
out very badly and this is the best that I could do in transcribing
them. I don't know if the entire bible exists or only a few pages. It may
be the latter which explains why I have not recorded the date of printing
for the bible.

The bible (or the pages) itself is the property of Leonora Green Roberton.
Many thanks to her for now agreeing to generously share this information.
She descends from Granville Physic (k) Smith's line as does Tom Hammack and
perhaps others of you..

When I relocate the photocopies of the original scans Leonora sent me,
I will check to see if I can improve on my transcriptions. It may be that
my current technology is such that scanning the scans may improve things
slightly. I understand that she did not receive the scans on CD but only
printed copies.

This baptism information had to be put into the bible after it was
purchased. I am assuming that it was printed in, or after,1825 so the
information was put in considerably after the time of the event. However, I
also am assuming it was copied from an earlier bible of George Sterling
Smith, and is likely to be accurate. I would guess that the writer is
likely to have been Elizabeth Boyce Smith who was about 42 at the time. I
believe that they were living in the Huntsville area of AL then.

If anyone has other information from their family records it would be very
helpful to help us flesh out this information. There is no location of
births and no deaths.

Suella

From my transcription:
Bible records for George Sterling Smith (with the date1825 on the fly
leaf) state that:

"William S [or B?]Smith was borned June 18 1802"

"Harriet E Smith was borned Oct 24 1804"

"George W Smith was borned Dec 9 1808.
The fly leaf has George Washington Smith written on it at some time
independently of other information"

"John B Smith was born sept 28 1812
John B Smith married to (scan very bad) Leonora------daughter of on the 22
of July, year unclear

I have no record for Rebecca C Smith. Can anyone help here?

Mary Eliza Smith was born Sept 23 1814

"Granville Physic (overwritten K?) born July 6 1817

G Physick Smith to Leonora A(-) Cheney on the 12 Mar 1850 (Scan very
unclear here)"

Caroline R------ Smith was born Dec 10 1819

Maria Louisa born September 17 1822

Virginia Guerrant Smith was born August 26 1825 (or 8)
------ end of scan transcription------

Cousins,
I don't seem to have a record for Ann/ Sarah Ann Smith. I only have the
date 1806 for her and I'm not sure where that has come from. Can anyone
help with a source and actual date?.

Thanks!
Suella
