Adam A/H Hartsell (he signed "A" in his youth, "H" as an older adult) reported being raised by his "Granny Hagler," identified by census records and otherwise as Margaret Polk Hagler, third wife of J. Peter Hagler. Peter and Margaret had one daughter, Mary, who is a likely candidate for his mother, based on birth date and proximity.

Personal information held by Adam's family reveals his father was John Hartsell. Andrew Hartsell, a neighbor of Peter and Margaret Hagler's, who bought Peter Hagler's property when Peter moved to Alabama, had a son John who is a likely candidate for Adam's father, based on birth date and proximity.

Court house fires have destroyed any records related to the marriage of Adam's parents. If anyone has family-Bible record (or any record(s)) of Adam's parentage, I would be pleased--and grateful--to have it.

Between 1978 and 1985 I identified all 268 of Adam Hartsell's descendants and located all of the living ones. Thus, I have "complete" information on the family from Adam down, and from his grandparents up (provided by others, principally T.J. Hagler) but nothing linking John's known father with either Andrew Hartsell or Mary Hagler.
