Subject: [HALE-L] Hale family names, Josiah, Sarah, Mary John, Willliam, of Henry CO. GA
Date: Sat, 2 Jan 1999 16:32:33 EST
Hi, All,
I am new to the list and this is my first posting, so bear with my ignorance,
please.
I am looking for help on the ancestors of my paternal grandmother. her name
was Mary Lee Nora Hale, married my paternal grandfather, John Daniel Turner.
Her parents were Josiah Hale and Sarah C. Adams. Everything I know about her
folks is listed below.
Mary Lee Nora Hale, my paternal grandmother was referred to by
family members as "Molly", and on one church roster, she is listed as "Mellie"
. She died when my dad was only a baby of 3 months, 3 weeks old, so he had no
memory of her. She died July 22, 1889, my dad was born March 30, 1889.
Mary Lee Nora, had a sister named, Emma Lee Dora. Jossie Emma (Turner)
Robertson, daughter of Mary Lenora "Molly" (Hale) Turner, had an old picture
of Molly with names ,"Mary Lee Nora" and "Mary Lanora" in dim handwriting on
the back. Mary Lee Nora named one of her sons, Howard Lee, and he gave his
two sons the second name, "Lee", Howard Lee Jr, and Richard Lee Turner. It
was common in those days for children to have three given names. The children
of my great grandparents had three given names, the third name being given as
a namesake in honor of the family doctor, attorney, or local banker.
Grandmother Lee Nora (Hale) Turner was married to John Daniel Clontz Turner,
until her death at the young age of only twenty- eight. She is buried in the
Methodist Cemetery at Inman, Georgia.
Once it was thought the two Hale sisters, Emma Lee Dora and Mary Lee Nora were
twins. Their headstones prove otherwise, different dates of birth. Emma Lee
Dora was married to a James (Jim) Turner, she and her husband Jim are buried
in the Shover Springs Cemetery near Hope, Arkansas.

I have been able to learn hardly anything from my relatives and what little I
have gleaned is from census records, which is not much. We don't have much in
the way of Georgia records available here in Arkansas.
If any of the above names look familiar to anyone, please let me know.
Thanks in advance,
Ray Turner
