Your post peaked my interest when I saw the reference to a Joseph W. Hale. I have no information in my HALE tree that really goes
back to the timeframe you mention, but I wonder if you have information on any more current generations. Specifically, my earliest
HALES are (which are all siblings w/unknown parents):

Leo James HALE (maybe born ~12/23, 1894?) married Anna Mae Hammer ~ 8/4/1919? (I am a decendant of this line).
Mini HALE
Stella HALE
Raymond HALE
Anne HALE

I have no more data on these earliest roots. Might they appear anywhere further down your list? I can only hope.
