Rick,
Rockingham was the county where James Hailey, the Revolutionary War veteran, lived. He was, as you know, the progenitor of the line which contained the William Weeks Hailey that Loren comes from in my previous message. James had moved on to Tennessee before the 1810 census for North Carolina. That census mentions one Charles Hailey in Rockingham for whom I have no information. The sad part is, I could be related and not know it. Thomas Hailey Sr. formerly of Brunswick County Virginia as early as 1773, had several sons including Robert, William, Thomas Jr., Sterling, David and Richard plus at least two daughters. It is my belief that James Hailey and Thomas Sr. were related probably back in Caroline County Virginia but that is another story.
Thomas Sr.'s sons Sterling, William and David (my direct line) are well known to me. After the family's removal to North Carolina shortly after 1800 or before for Robert, I completely loose track of who belongs to whom. This includes all of the family of Thomas Jr. and Robert. Richard, I believe, went to Texas where he remained (I could be wrong). Thomas Sr.'s family entirely lacked in imagination when it came to naming. They used and reused names. Sterling had a son David and it would not surprise me to find that Robert and Thomas Jr. had also, but I have no record of such. Also both men were old enough that they could have had children who could have been parents of your David. Robert was married shortly after the Revolution and Thomas Jr. was married ca. 1790. Would not be surprised if one of those two could be your man. Thomas Sr.'s family occupied at one time or another, Granville, Person, Caswell, Orange and Wake. Would be glad to send you attachments of my research if!
you would like. Do not believe you will find your David in it but may keep you from having to go over some territory or have to rediscover some. Robert would be my best guess as I know he lived at least for a while in Person County, David (my ancestor) and William lived in Caswell which adjoins Rockingham during the time in question. Charles could be the son of Robert. I suspect that it was Robert's son Henry who married in Caswell in 1812 and who was listed on the 1820 census for that county. I just can't say.
Michael
