Good morning, J.R.
Thank you very much for the info on Hamel. This particular generation is the
most important one, since it could allow me to connect with a regional
genealogy and make short work of the whole thing. The names you sent must be
the right ones since my grandmother did have a brother named Phileas, and I
knew that he had pursued the religious life...sure looks like ONCLE PHIEAS to
me ! All other names match too, but I'm a bit confused about the town of St.
Damase.
My map shows 2 such towns, both quite a distance from Marieville. The 1st is
St. Damase, which is about 30 miles north of Rimouski, and the other is St.
Damase des Aulnaies. which is in the south of Kamouraska county not far from
Riviere-Ouelle. It's surely not inconceivable that the family could have
moved a great distance at that time, but I am wondering if there isn't
another St. Damase which does not show on my map.The fact that Phileas was at
the seminary in Marieville ties the whole thing together pretty well since my
grandmother, younger than Phileas, was born in Marieville.
Can you shed some light on other possible towns called St. Damase?
Do you live in Quebec?
Regards,
Roger
