The Fairey Aviation Co Ltd, Hamble, Eastleigh, Ringway and Streton (Fairey
Group) [also Wilderspool, Warrington].From the early days Fairey was one of
the great names in British aviation, although its successors no longer build
aircraft, the name continues when it became part of the Hawkey Siddeley.
British Aerospace was formed in 1977 by the amalgamation of British Aircraft
Corporation, Hawker Siddeley Aviation, Hawker Siddeley Dynamics and Scottish
Aviation. Current Fairey Group Plc ( a specialist process technology group
focused on electronic controls, process instrumentation and filtration
systems).
Fairey Group changed its name to Spectris on May 9th 2001.

Faireys had begun as Fairey Aviation - building sea planes, but when demand
slowed soon after the Second World War, Richard Fairey, who owned the
company, turned his attentions to boatbuilding. Fairey's first boat was the
Firefly - one of a series of Uffa Fox designs they produced.

transported aircraft workers to the various companies with their destination
boards simply marked up with the company name such as Supermarine and

lorries from Woolston and Bitterne to get their employees to Hamble...."
