Hello,

Yes, the old name for Portsmouth was Portsea Island and Landport is/was one
of the districts roughly in the centre of the island. Much of it has been
pulled down to make way for new housing (blocks of flats and maisonnettes -
probably the wrong spelling) and many of the old roads have been renamed.

I was brought up in Portsmouth (North End) in the late 40's and so much of
the island is different now.
