William Vardeman was a twin - His twin was Sanders (who disappeared after
the Mexican War in the late 1840's and was never heard from again). That whole
thing is an interesting story. Anyway, Vardeman's parents were William
Hancock & Sarah Asher. They married in Jefferson Co Kty in 1817 and moved up to
Owen Co. Indiana about 1821. William & Sarah in the 1830's got a pretty
nasty divorce in Owen Co. Their children were 1) Henderson Sanders b. 1818
2) Louisa b. 1820 3) Nancy b. 1822 4&5) Vardeman & Sanders b. 1826 and
6) Taylor b. 1830. Sarah was called Sally and she left William (seen
him called Wm. Jr. once or twice) in November 1835 and their divorce was final
in April 1837. Their son, Henderson Sanders Hancock is my g-g-grandfather.
Vardeman and Rhoda moved with Henderson - the families seemed to all move
in groups so I have always tracked them all while doing my direct line. The
mother, Sally lived her whole life with Vardeman and Rhoda. I hope I can
get a copy of the picture - would like to see what the kids looked like.
Vardamen had 14 kids! My line that I have been able to verify is William
Hancock/ Sarah Harden; William Jr./Sarah Asher; Henderson Sanders Hancock/Lucy
Jane Ray; Sanders Henderson Hancock/Emma Susan Eaton; Hurley Henderson
Hancock/Edith Edna Eastman; Cecil Edith Hancock/Lee Roy Todd; then me, Cindy
Todd Davis. On the Hancock web site I never find anyone from this line very
often. Hope to hear back. Would like to get pic copied for any of our
Hancock family out there. As ever, Cindy
