My husband's grandfather, Otto Joseph Markman BERGENER (of German ancestry), marr. Nov 1908, to Mary Jane WELCH. My husband was very aware of the BERGENER ancestry, and the conversion of his great-grandfather in Berlin, Germany. But because of some kind of family squabble, his grandmother prevented her children from contact with the WELCH family, and my husband was unaware of the rich heritage of this family.
I did not learn anything at all about it until after we moved from Washington State to Virginia. To help my children learn more and appreciate more, the sacrifices of the early Saints, we followed as closely as possible the Mormon Trail (backwards) as we travelled east, but it was not until after we got to Virginia, and the AncestralFile became available at FHCs that we learned about the WELCH family heritage of early Saints!
I would like to get in contact with other family members on that side who may be related to any of the following:
Fountain WELCH, b. 15 July 1834, Terre Haute, IN; s.o. Jakob WELCH & Amelia THOMAS
Sarah SHEPARD, b. 19 Nov 1842, Zarahemla, Montrose, IA; d.o. Isaac Monroe SHEPARD & Sarah LAKORE
Hans HANSEN, b. 15 July 1835, Trostrup, Odense, Denmark; s.o. Hans JORGENSEN & Maren Kirstine (Munch) PEDERSEN (this family arrived in New Orleans in 1853, and crossed the plains in 1854)
Anna Helena MARYGER, b. 23 Aug 1840, Venebar, Sjaelland, Denmark; d.o. Jorgen S MARIAGER & Else MADSEN MARIAGER (Evidently Else joined the Church with her children, and came to America in 1859/1860 - she died 23 July 1860 "near the Little Horn River, NE"; her husband remained in Denmark and remarried)
