April 27, 1774 - John Hankins, grantee, 186 acres located on branches of
Crab Creek, known as Field's Big Meadows (Woods River, now Crabb Creek).

---"Court case in Green Co, Kentucky (File #3871) which proves all the
relationships listed below. This case concerns property of Moses Skaggs who
was probably born about 1730 and died about 1799, intestate, in Green Co.
He had no children. The court case concerned disposition of his property,
and since it was many years after his death, almost all his sisters and
brothers were dead so his nieces and nephews were named. Probably those
nieces and nephews who had died prior to the settlement of the estate in
1836 were not named."

This indenture made this fifteenth day of June in the year of our Lord one
thousand eight hundred and thirty between John Hankins, Senior of the
County of Tazewell and State of Virginia on the part and Joseph Hankins of
the County and State aforesaid of the part. Witnesseth that the said John
Hankins, Senior for and in consideration of the sum of eight hundred
dollars current money of the State aforesaid to him in in hand paid by the
said Joseph Hankins at or before the sealing and delivery of these presents
the receipt whereof hereby is acknowledged have granted bargained sold
released and confirmed and by these do grant bargain sell and confirm unto
the said Hankins his heirs assignees forever a certain tract of land
situate and being in the County of Tazewell aforesaid and State of
Virginia on the waters of Clinch River in the Baptist Valley bearing date
the eighteenth day of August one thousand seven hundred and ninety four and
bounded as follows to Wit:

BEGINNING on the South side of Sandy Ridge at a Spanish oak corner to
Thomas Bruster land with a line thereof
SOUTH 34 EAST 106 poles to a double lynn at the foot of a ridge thence
leaving said line
SOUTH 66 WEST 143 poles to a black walnut at the foot of said ridge
SOUTH 45 WEST 53 poles to three white oaks at the foot of a ridge by a branch
NORTH 24 NORTH 44 poles crossing a branch to a large white oak thence with
a conditional line made by consent of parties between Moses Hankins and
said Joseph Hankins running nearby each in the direction with a large elm
near the head of a spring to the middle of a lane cornering on a stake and
with said lane with its courses and passing the same to a white oak and
poplar on or near the open line of said survey marked by the parties thence
NORTH 71 EAST with said open lines to the BEGINNING

Being a part of said John Hankins Seignor tract containing one hundred and
ten acres to the same more or less and all its appertances thereunto
belonging also right title and interest of said land to have and to hold
the said tract of land situate as aforesaid with all its appertances to the
said Joseph Hankins his heirs and assigns forever and the said John
Hankins, Seignor, and his heirs executors and administrators do covenant
promise and agree to and with the said Joseph Hankins and his heirs and
assigns that he the said John Hankins, Seignor and his heirs and assigns
the aforesaid tract of land with its appertances unto Joseph Hankins and
his heirs and assigns against the claim of all and every person and persons
whatever shall and will warrant and defend forever. In witness whereof the
said John Hankins has hereunto set his hand and affixed his seal the day
and year first above written.

Tazewell, June Court 1830
A deed of bargain and sale from John Hankins to Joseph Hankins was proven
in Court by the oaths of Henry Chriswell, Robert Maxwell, Jr and Robert
Barrett. Witness thereto and ordered to be recorded.

This Indenture made this fifteenth day of June in the year of our Lord one
thousand eight hundred and thirty between John Hankins, Senior of the
County of Tazewell and State of Virginia on the one part and Moses Hankins
of the County and State aforesaid on the other part wittnesseth that the
said John Hankins, Senior for and in consideration of the sum of two
hundred dollars current money of the State aforesaid to him in hand paid by
the said Moses Hankins at or before the Sealing and delivering of these
presents the receipt whereof thereby is acknowledged have granted bargained
sold released and confirmed and by these presents do grant bargain sell and
confirm unto the said Moses Hankins his heirs and asignees forever a
certain tract or parcel of land containing forty acres to the same more or
less situate and being in the County of Tazewell aforesaid and State of
Virginia on the waters of Clinch in the Baptist Valley and part of said
John Hankins old tract bearing date the eighteenth day of August one
thousand seven hundred and ninety four and bounded as follows to witt.

BEGINNING on a white oak and poplar a conditional corner made by said
Moses and Josesph Hankins on or near the open line of said tract and on the
South side of Sandy nobs running with and on said conditional line
mentioned in Joseph Hankins deed to a large white oak corner on a steep
ridge called the Poplar Ridge thence
WEST 60 poles to a large poplar on the North side of said ridge
NORTH 15 WEST 70 poles crossing a branch to two white oaks in a gap of the
Sandy Ridge and along the same
NORTH 71 EAST to the BEGINNING.

With all the appurtances thereunto belonging also right title and intrust
of the said land to have and to hold the said tract of land situate as
aforesaid with all its appurtances to the said Moses Hankins his heirs and
assigns forever and the said John Hankins, Senior and his heirs and assigns
the aforesaid tract of land with its appertances unto Moses Hankins and his
heirs and assigns against the claim of all and every person and person
whatever shall and will warrant and defend forever. In Witness whereof the
said John Hankins, Senior has hereunto set his hand and affixed his seal
the day and year first above written.

Know all men by these presents that I, John Hankins of the County of
Tazewell and State of Virginia for and in consideration of the natural love
and affection which I bear to Abel Hankins son of my daughter Rebecca as
well as for further consideration of one dollar to me in hand paid by the
said Abel Hankins at or before the ensealing and delivery of these presents
the receipt whereof hereby acknowledged have given and granted and by these
presents do give and grant unto the said Abel Hankins his executors
administrators and assigns his heifers three years old, two beds and
furniture, two ewe sheep, one pot, one spinning wheel, and twelve geese to
have and to hold the said property unto him the said Abel Hankins his
executors administrator and assigns forever and the said John Hankins for
himself his executors and administrators the said property unto the said
Abel Hankins his executors administrators and assigns against the claim of
him the said John Hankins, his executors and administrators and against the
claim or claims of all and every person or persons whatsoever shall and
will warrant and forever defend them by these presents. In Witness whereof
I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this 22nd day of June in
the year of our Lord of one thousand eight hundred and thirty.
