I can't prove this, but the Thomas Henry Hanks family
may descend from ole Epiphroditus Hanks, son of John
Hanks and Mary Mott (John is son of William Hanks II)
John and Mary had 3 sons: Mott Hanks, John Hanks and
Epiphroditus Hanks. Ole Epi lived to be 102; was in
Revolutionary War. Pension appl.R4567, 1 Nov 1832.
Epi was b. in VA 1747, then the family moved to NC.
Epi married twice (wives names not known, but 2nd
wife was a Lanier)
Epi's son, William Hanks, b. c. 1770-74, Dobbs Co.,
NC; died in Shelby Co., TX, 1833. He m. Sophie Reams
c. 1800, lived in AL 1820-23, then to TX. Wm. in War
of 1812.
William Hanks' children, as listed in "The Hanks
Family of Virginia and Westward" are:
Howell Gilliam Hanks, b. 1802
Elizabeth Hanks, b. 1804
Mary, b. 1806
James, b. 1808, SC; sheriff in Shelby Co., TX
Thodea Ann, b. 1809
Lemiel 1814
William, b. 1816
Stephen, b. 1817
Sarah, b. 1819
Hezekiah Ira, b. 1820; d, 1824
John E. Wesley, b. 1822; d. 1824
Sophia Ellen, b. 1824

The name of Thomas Henry Hanks' son, EDYTAS PETHERO
(EPIPHERO) HANKS seems to be related to the name
Epiphroditus.

sent a marriage record for
SPAPHRADITES HANKS to MARGARET WOODS, 3 Mar 1837,
Union Co., AR! She also found a land purchase for an
Epiphroditus in Ashley Co., AR on 9/1/1860.
This is a challenge. We are missing a generation or
something.
