Subject: [HARRELL] Jones Co.NC, Enos s/o David & Celia Moore..I don't think so.

Hello Everyone,
Recently Gary Stella questioned whether David Harrell and wife Celia Moore m.
1777), d. abt 1779 in Jones Co. NC, could be the father of our Enos Harrell.
His arguments were based on the dates of other children. Well, I have to
agree with him based on some deed abstracts I found in Jones Co. that suggest
Enos was already almost of age when his father died, as he turned around and
sold the land deed to him (as a minor) just a few short years later.
It would appear that (a) the David mentioned in the Jones Co. records is a
different David than the one who married Celia Moore and is thought to be son
of David & Charity Rawls; or (b) this David, son of David and Charity, had a
previous marriage. Since possible son of Enos, Asa shows up as a witness to a
deed in 1785 below, indicating that Enos was probably born before 1745, if
Asa was close to 21years, then option (a) should probably be explored -- or
this Asa could be a brother of Enos, another son of David who belonged???..
Because Enos is in Smith Co. TN court records with the Granades, I believe
that this Enos in Jones Co. is most likely the same.
I submit the following land transactions, and comment that there are many,
many more Granade's in Jones Co. than Harrells, but at DAR Library there was
only a deed/will abstract book, and I had only time to look for deeds with
Enos or David (and a couple other Harrells), and (b) there is no Granade will
there that fits. Guardianship records would be in Court Orders or similar
book, however.
I only copied a few pages. Some of them also have LEE deeds, which suggest
that John Burton Lee, may have been a son of John LEE. There was no will
for John LEE in Jones Co., but he could have died elsewhere.
So....lots to ponder. Any thoughts appreciated.

DEEDS:
This is deed #1 of prime interest:
Aug. 15, 1779. Kader KNIGHT to Enos HARRAL both of Jones Co. for 25 pds.
(Enos Harral is a minor) paid by David Harral, father of Enos Harral,
deceased. 100 acres in Jones Co. on Mill Creek being part of land deeded
from John GRANADE to Kader KNIGHT below Island Branch and is part of land
granted to John Granade, Dec. 11, 1770. Wits: Dorothy WHITTY, Edward WHITTY.
This is deed #2 of prime interest..five years later (must be 21) Enos sells
the above land back to Kader Knight (for less money).
Sept. 7, 1784. Enos HARRAL to Kader KNIGHT, planter, for 15 pounds. 100
acres on Mill creek being part of the Kader Knight deed from John GRANADE and
transferred to Enos HARRAL. Wits: Edwd. WHITTY, Edmund HOWARD.
This is deed #3....Asa as witness.
Dec.27, 1785. Kader KNIGHT and Edward WHITTY to Enos HARREL for 80 pds. 100
acres on a creek inside Knight's lines. Wts: Hezekiah MERRITT, Asa HARREL.
This is deed #4...The LEE connection -- this appears to be a quit-claim deed
selling probably a portion of a legacy to John Burton LEE, probably
uncle/brother/cousin trying to preserve grandpa's tract which several
descendants had rights to. I did not realize what this was until I got home,
so I only caught the next deed, which suggests another possible descendant of
John Lee, though "grandfather" is not mentioned..
Dec. 20 1789. Enos HARRAL and wife ASENATH, to John Burton LEE for 15 pds.
all their right in land patented by John Lee, grandfather of Sena (Asenath)
Harrell, Apr. 22, 1767, containing 100 acres on S. side of Westernmost prong
of Mill Creek where POLLOCK's and COLLINS' lines cross and along Collins'
line to Lee's line. Wts: Wm. TAYLOR, E. OWENS.
Dec. 20, 1789. Collinson JOHNSTON and wife Leah, to John Burton LEE for 65
pds. all their right to land conveyed to him by Thomas LITTLETON which land
was patented by John LEE. Apr. 2 [maybe 22?], at POLLOCK's, COLLINS' lines
containing 100 acres on s. side of westermost prong of Mill Creek at Lee's
line. Wts: Edwd. WHITTY, Wm. TAYLOR.
Note: same day the Whittys (Edw & Dorothy) eeded land to John Burton Lee,
but it doesn't read like a quit-claim.
Deed dated 1797, but not recorded until 1803. It would appear he is selling
off his property.
Jan. 18, 1797. Enos HARRELL to George POLLOCK for 26 pounds. 100 acres on
Mill creek at Kader KNIGHT's line. And also a tract of 100 acres adjoining
above land; a warrant thereof now in Secretary's office. Wts: Wm. C. GOOD,
Samuel ALLCOCK. July 19, 1803. Wm. C. Good dead. Allcock out of State.
