Dear List,
I am a descendant of Capt. Thomas Harris (Group 8) on the HARRIS Y-DNA
RESULTS page:
http://www.harrisdna.org/new15.html
There are now 9 people who have submitted DNA kits that link back to Capt.
Thomas Harris (results are not yet in for the 2 most recently submitted
kits). Also one other who thinks they go back to Capt. Thomas Harris, but
the DNA does not match.
I decided to try to chart these with the proven and unproven lineages. I
have posted this information on the Rootsweb WorldConnect site:
http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=vaharrises
For unproven links, I have used <> around the names. These brackets mean
the link between that person and the prior generation is not proved.
Currently I show no proven children of William Harris who married Mary Giles
(because that generation itself has some quesions surrounding it).
I also decided to number each line of descent. I am using T1, T2, etc.
after a person's name to show they link back to Capt. Thomas Harris through
DNA (I have not used the actual kit numbers). The same number will follow
in each link of the descent (unless another DNA sample has been received
that connects to that line). There is one line that I have almost no
information on (#T9).
For the one link that supposedly goes back to Capt. Thomas Harris (but DNA
does not prove this out), that line is noted by U1 (Unknown line #1) in each
generation.
Because of privacy issues, I have not posted any notes or sources on the
pages on WorldConnect. I have also set a cut off date of 1900 (no
information on anyone born after that date can be found on the site).
I think if you find William Harris & Mary Giles and do a descendancy view,
you can see some of the interconnections. You could also do the same with
Capt. Thomas Harris.
There is still some question in my mind over some issues in this Capt.
Thomas Harris line:
1) The marriage of William Harris and Mary Giles has been questioned on all
the Harris lists. Apparently his wife was a Mary, but some say her maiden
name was Willis.
2) Several researchers claim there is a Thomas Harris-Mary Giles marriage
and a William Harris-Mary Giles marriage. The William Harris is reported to
be the son of Maj. William Harris & grandson of Capt. Thomas Harris. The
Thomas Harris who is listed as married to a Mary Giles has been reported to
be a son of Robert Harris of the Forks who married Mary Claiborne Rice.
Also, if there really are these 2
marriages, people also say that the two Mary Gileses were cousins (probably
first cousins?) to each other.
I hope you can make sense of my WorldConnect site.
