Date: Tue, 8 Apr 2008 11:22:01 -0700 (PDT)
this info just posted re the stanley family, which involved them with this william harris, wife, jane, in halifax co, va, also involves them there with marston green.
1764 Mar 7 - Halifax Co., Va. - pg 47 - Richard is a witness to a deed. Richard Brown of (county not given) to Marston Green of Halifax Co. 413 acres for 162 pounds by plat surveyed out of a tract of land granted sd. Richard Brown by patent 13 August 1763, beginning at the mouth of the Mill Creek, the Double Branch, John Hunts corner, Chandler's line, Samuel Cox's line, Robert Perkins line. Witnesses were Frances Jones, Thomas Walker, RICHARD STANLEY and Ann Brown. Recorded 15 Mar 1764. 108
these are the same clay/ green/ hudson families as john and elizabeth harris hudson of hanover co, va, whose son christopher hudson also moved to lunenburg/ mecklenburg co, va and who, like peter hudson, sr's family, was also involved there with both william harris/ judith hudson and my william harris, sr/ frances goode as shown per these lunenburg co, va deeds and records.
here, however, i want to say more about these green and clay connections.
this into to follow re the clay family can be found on line and rootsweb sites:
10th. Sir John Clay (1558-1632 Eng) m. /wife unknown/
9th. John Clay (1587-1655 Eng) m. Elizabeth /?/ or Anne /?/
8th. Charles Clay (1638-1686 Va) m. Hanna Wilson (1642-1687)
7th. Henry Clay (1672-1760 Va) m. Mary Mitchell (1698-1777)
....John Clay (1718-1762 Va) m. Mary Watkins (1717-?)
.......Rev. John Clay (1741-1781 Va) m. Elizabeth Hudson (1750-1829 Ky)
..........Henry Clay (1777 Va-1852 Ky) m. Lucritia Hart (1781-1864)
6th. Rev Charles Clay (1715-1789) m. Martha Green (1719-1793)
dr henry clay (1736-1820)/ rachel povall, associated with same families in lunenburg/ mecklenburg co, va was the son of henry clay/ lucy green and grandson of henry clay/ mary mitchell and great-grandson of charles clay and hannah wilson, who re-married edward stanley.
so, john clay/ mary watkins, father of rev john clay, who married elizabeth hudson, was the brother of henry clay/ lucy green, father of dr henry clay/ rachel povall of lunenburg/ mecklenburg co, va.
again, re lucy green clay, this was her brother marston green, who married elizabeth apperson and this info re marston green is from a rootsweb site:
Marston Green was captain of the Halifax County militia in September 1763. Marston Green was married to Elizabeth Apperson, daughter of Samuel Apperson of James City County, before July 1769. Marston and Elizabeth moved back to Amelia County and agreed to sell the 445-acre and 413-acre tracts in Halifax County to her father. Yet Samuel died before they consummated the sale. Further, Samuels son John Apperson Jr., who was to inherit the land died, too. So, in May 1770, Marston and Elizabeth conveyed to land to Robert Wooding, executor of the will of John Apperson Jr.
here are also lunenburg co, va deeds re dr henry clay/ rachel povall and these lunenburg/ mecklenburg co, va deeds connect henry clay/ rachel povall with the same individuals involved with my william harris, sr/ frances goode and william harris/ judith hudson, etc.
mecklenburg co, va deed book 2, page 268, 1769, henry clay of mecklenburg co, va to charles clay of same for 75 pds, 563 acres in mecklenburg on bluestone creek and bounded by henry clay's land, brother of charles clay, the lick branch, dandie. signed: henry clay. witnesess: george holloway; james hall; robert burton. this deed was acknowledged by henry clay and his wife, rachel.
again, it was my william harris, sr/ frances goode, who, per early mecklenburg co, va deed, sold land in 1765 to james hall on the middle fork of the bluestone creek and, again, these connections re james hall and his uncle stephen evans, sr with my william harris, sr/ frances goode and my mackerness goode, sr, as well as with william harris/ judith hudson, etc, are also more involved.
here again, for now, is the 1765 mecklenburg co, va deed re my william harris, sr/ frances goode to james hall:
mecklenburg co, va deed book 1, page 14, 1765, william harris of
mecklenburg co, va to james hall of same for 15 pds, 30 acres on the
south side of the middle fork of the bluestone creek being a part of a
larger tract patented to william harris, bounded by james hall on
sawpitt branch. signed: william harris. witnesses: jeremiah glenn; john
marable; micajah smithson.
to continue with the clay deeds:
mecklenburg co, va deed book 2, page 270, 1769, henry clay of charlotte co, va to samuel clay of mecklenburg co, va for 100 pds, 320 acres in mecklenburg on the bluestone creek and bounded by robertson on the creek, the patent line. witnesses: marston clay; charles clay; elizabeth clay. signed: henry clay. deed was acknowledged by henry clay and his wife, rachel.
mecklenburg co, va deed book 2, page 271, 1769, henry clay of charlotte co, va to john smith of mecklenburg co, va for 70 pds, 230 acres where the patent line crosses the creek, a new line. signed: henry clay. witnesses: benjamin hatcher; lucy hatcher; william goode; charles clay. deed acknowledged by henry clay and his wife rachel.
again, per lunenburg co, va deed i have cited in the past, but to re-cite, it was my william harris, sr/ frances goode, who also sold land to this same john smith who, at the time, was of amelia co, va, 400 acres on the middle fork of the bluestone creek.
lunenburg co, va deed book 6, page 528, 1761, william harris of lunenburg co, va to john smith of amelia co, va for 200 pds, 400 acres on both sides of the middle fork of the bluestone creek and bounded by new lines. signed: william harriss. witnesses: abram crowder; peter hamlin, his mark; benjamin ragsdale. frances, wife of william harris, relinquished her right of dower.
