Dave and everyone,
The question came up about Anna (Tharp) Hartrum's gravestone. My mother lives in Delaware Township and I have visited Fancher Cemetery several times. I live about 45 minutes from Fancher Cemetery.
Anna Hartrum's gravestone is right next to the family plot of Amos and Phoebe Haycook, her son-in-law and daughter. When I inspected the gravestone in 1997 it was broken into four pieces which were very worn and hard to read. However, "Anna, wife of George Hartrum" and the death date of "185_" could still be read although that information was almost completely worn away. Author Esther Powell writes that the cemetery was read in 1947 and her cemetery book gives the following information about Anna's gravestone as it was read at that time: "Hartrum, Anna wife of George Hartrum died June 26, 1852 ae 20Y 9M".
When I saw the stone and the location it was very obvious that it was the gravestone of Anna (Tharp) Hartrum due to the relationship to the gravestone of her daughter and son-in-law.
It appears that the age of 20 years and 9 months as stated in the book is mistake as this age is not consistent with other records. A mistake might have been made in reading the gravestone or transcribing the information. I could not read any age information on the gravestone when I inspected it in 1997. I'll never be able to "prove" that it is her gravestone but I truly believe a mistake was made when the stone was read and/or transcribed by Esther Powell in 1947.
I'll go there next week and check for possible burial records for Fancher Cemetery but it is very doubtful that there are any burial records for that time period.
I've been away from the Hartrum line for some time. I'll get back into it and keep everyone posted. If you have specific Delaware County questions let me know. I'll be glad to work on Delaware County unless someone else also lives in this area. I also go to the Ohio Historical often and can help out with research there.
