My William Reid Harvey, his wife Mary and children Mary (aged about 8) and
Peter, a baby arrived in Australia about 1893. William was a ship's engineer
and the ship they came on was, according to family stories, the 1st ship
under full steam to travel from Newcastle-on-Tyne to Newcastle NSW. I have
been researching for a few years but have not been able to find any record
of this ship or of their arrival. They came from Aberdeen, where the
children were both born, and William apparently had a brother who went to
Canada. Mary was the daughter of James Coutts and Catherine Lawson, born in
Kincardine O'Neil. Would be pleased to hear from anyone who has any
information on them.
