I am listing below the families in my line who originated on Sao Miguel Isl.,
Azores, and came to Hawaii as sugar plantation contract laborers. Please send
me an e-mail if you connect to one of these families.

>From Maia
Antonio de Melo, son of Manuel de Melo and Ana Joaquina Medeiros.
with wife Maria da Conceicao, daughter of Manoel Pascoal and Tomazia de Jesus,
children: Jose, Eugenio, Antonio, Mariano, and Francisco
Came on the Bell Rock

Castanho, Joao, son of Jose de Melo Castanho (aka Jose de Mello) and Maria
Jacinta (aka Maria de Jesus Camara)
with wife Maria Victorina, child Jose
Came on the Hansa

Melo, Jose de, son of Felicianno de Mello and Rosa Jacinta Botelho
with wife Maria Joaquina, child Manuel
Came on the Monarch

de Braga, Josimo (Zozimo), son of Jacinto Jose de Braga and Rosa de Medeiros
Pacheco
with wife Maria da Conceicao, daughter of Felicianno de Mello and Rosa Jacinta
Botelho (see her brother above), children Jose, Maria dos Anjos, Marie Grace
(There are 2 other known children: Jacinto and Seraphim. It doesn't seem
that Jacinto came to Hawaii. Seraphim did but isn't listed with the family in
immigration records)
Came on the Monarch--Settled on Kauai (except for Seraphim who settled on
Oahu)

de Braga, Diniz, son of Manoel de Braga and Maria da Conceicao
wife Francisca Carreira, dau of Jose Carreira and Maria Augusta
child Maria
Came on the Abergeldie--settled on Kauai

Medeiros, Manoel Gonsalves, son of Jose de Medeiros and Tomasia Julia
with wife Ermelinda da Braga, daughter of Manoel de Braga and Maria da
Conceicao
Came on the Abergeldie
(Ermelinda and Diniz are brother and sister)

>From Achada
de Mello, Ana Jacinta, daughter of Jose Francisco de Melo and Rosa Pimentel
(widow of Jacinto Pacheco, son of Joao Pacheco and Jacintha Roza) Came to
Hawaii on the Hansa with her children: Manoel, Jose, Joao, Francisco, Maria,
Theodoro. There was also one other son, Antonio, who went to Hawaii. Not
listed who may have arrived separately. This family also went by Algravio,
Algarva, and Algrava. Settled on Kauai.
