I was given a book by my mother titled, "KANAKA, The Untold Story of Hawaiian
Pioneers in British Columbia and the Pacific Northwest". The book is written
by Tom Koppel, published in 1995 by Whitecap Books.

This book has a brief (2 page section) about John Sutter and Kanakas coming
to California. I am willing to transcribe this on the list for those
interested or will e-mail it to anyone interested. Just contact me directly
if interested.

My father is Hawaiian and I was born and raised in Sacramento, however never
knew of this heritage until I read this book! My father did not come to the
state via Sutter, but I find the story interesting.
